How many of us have been disappointed by a fad diet? So many of us get sucked into what appears to be a diet that cannot fail. When we cannot keep it up we feel like it is us who have failed. But very often it is the diet that fails us. Diets that make promises that seem too good to be true probably are. Losing weight is a process that cannot happen over night. If we lose weight too fast we will put it back on just as fast. Very fast weight loss is a strain on the body. High fiber diets are closer to what nature intended and the fiber is a great help in health and weight loss.

High Fiber Diets Are Cleansing

When people pay any attention to balanced diets they do not think about fiber. They talk about nutrients, minerals, vitamins and even issues that are really too complicated for the man in the street such as amino acids. A high fiber diet will aid your intestines and colon in the excretion of waste.

A high fiber diet helps to keep you digestive system in running order. Think of it as engine cleaner. Not only does it clean your system but it also helps you to burn fuel more efficiently. It makes the contractions of your intestines used to push the food forward more effective in accomplishing that goal. Fiber absorbs water which results in excrement being softer and easier to push out. The absorption of water also leads to the expansion of the fiber. This causes the pushing action of your intestines to be more effective and it collects the buildup on the intestinal wall.

High Fiber Diets Correct Digestion

High fiber diets are regularly prescribed to patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) by dieticians. IBS describes people who have bowel issues that cannot be linked to the malfunctioning organs or conventional diseases. A patient might be constantly constipated or might have regular bouts of diarrhea. You can imagine how uncomfortable and debilitating such a syndrome must be to a person’s social and professional life. High fiber diets bring a semblance of normalcy to people’s lives who suffer from IBS.

Most of the problems that high fiber diets help to prevent are complications that develop over a long period of time due to an improper diet and the symptoms usually only manifest in old age. Two examples are colon cancer and diverticulitis. A big percentage of people actually have diverticulosis. Diverticula are small pouches which develop in your colon. Diverticula are not dangerous by themselves. About a quarter of people with diverticulosis will develop diverticulitis. This is when the diverticula rupture and become infected. This is a serious problem and makes it extremely hard and painful to excrete bodily waste.

Because these problems develop in the long term the urgency is not always there to make fiber a priority. Other elements in food have immediate effects when a deficient amount is ingested. You might feel tired or have headaches when you don’t get the right mixture of vitamins. You might easily develop flue due to a weak immune system resulting from too little Vitamin C. These things are immediate enough to prompt you to make changes in your diet to eliminate them. It is like the parable about the frog in the pot of water that is slowly heated and the frog boils before he realizes that the water is hot. We hardly notice things when they happen gradually, but it is important to look towards your future health by learning more about high fiber diets.

Nuts and whole grains are high fiber food that is readily available. Whole grain bread is an easy way to include fiber in your diet, but check the nutritional information closely to make sure it is just that. With a low fat filling like tuna or turkey you will never feel hungry. Leave out the traditional mayonnaise and opt for French mustard and pickles. Take the time to look and you will see high fiber foods in every store. Find some good recipes and start including them in your diet right away. This the way you will keep your digestive system happy. This means that you will be happy because you are being cleansed and fed in a regular cycle.

High Fiber Food Every Day

Including High Fiber Foods in your daily diet is an important factor, in keeping your body functioning properly and therefore healthy. Most people do not incorporate enough in their daily food intake and this can cause some very serious problems. The importance of fiber in your diet can not be stressed enough, and, if you want to avoid those problems, you should make a point of including it in your diet. It can be extremely beneficial. After all, what‘s more important than your health?.

Why is fiber so important? What it does is vital, with regards to the body’s functions. Fiber is absolutely essential to the digestive system. Without it, the body can not process your food properly and eliminate waste. It also absorbs water in the body, which produces bigger stools that are softer. The colon more easily contracts and both these factors make the stool easier to pass. This also keeps the digestive tract healthy. All are essential factors to keep the body healthy and help avoid constipation, and, all the other problems that this can create.

Many people suffer digestive problems un-necessarily. Most of them can be avoided by simply including high fiber foods in your diet. Symptoms can include, bloating, excessive wind and diarrhea. It can also lead to more serious problems, such as ‘Diverticulitis’ Irritable Bowel – IBS and even cancer of the colon. People find these conditions embarrassing and they can also prevent people leading a healthy and normal life. High fiber foods are a great ‘quick fix’ for many of the symptoms and can even get some of the conditions sufficiently under control. It lets people get on with living.

So which high fiber foods should you choose? You probably have some of them in your everyday diet already. You just do not include a sufficient amount of them. It is essential to eat the recommended daily amounts, in order to keep the digestive tract working properly. There is lots of information available on the internet and various books available with advice and recipes. A ‘Nutritional Table’ is very useful; it will show lots of foods that are all high in fiber. Most can be easily found and easily included in your daily diet. Raw vegetable are a good source of fiber, for example, carrots, cabbage and turnips. You may love a salad, but unfortunately, lettuce isn’t one of them. Fruit is another good source, but don’t peel it! Freshly blended juice or stewed fruit taste great and are an excellent source of fiber. These foods are delicious. If you are accustomed to eating processed foods your taste buds will have to readjust to these more natural flavors. Soon you will prefer the taste of fresh food.

It is important to know that both a high and low fiber foods diet is the best option. In fact, this is not really a choice it is a necessity. The human body requires both kinds of fiber to function properly. But there are individuals who have specific conditions that would be worsened if they ate high fiber foods. Whereas a normal human being without any medical complaints would be encouraged to consume a balance of both kinds of fiber, there are some who can only eat low fiber foods. Diet must take into consideration the special needs of the individual.

Low Fiber Foods Diet Unhealthy To Some

Eating a high fiber diet keeps you a lot safer from getting a range of long term diseases. They range from heart and arterial diseases to colon cancer. The worst part is that they only manifest in old age when you are weak and vulnerable already. Eating a balanced diet can save you form suffering at just the specific time when you are supposed to be enjoying the freedom of retirement. However, there are some conditions where doctors and dieticians will advise you not to eat certain high fiber foods.

Low Fiber Foods Diet Necessary In Certain Circumstances

Fiber is the indigestible parts of plants. You have soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. Because high fiber foods are usually hard and coarse, some conditions require you to eat a low fiber diet. People who suffer from Colitis or Crohns disease usually experience pain and discomfort when they eat too much fiber. This can lead to severe complications and even internal bleeding within the intestines and colon. Fiber also increases the pressure on the intestines which can be very painful.

Diverticulitis is another digestive disorder that requires you not to eat some of the rougher high fiber foods such as whole grain bread and nuts. Diverticulitis is a condition where little pouches form inside the colon. This condition is fairly common but becomes dangerous when the pouches rupture and become infected. This condition can make the excretion of waste extremely painful.

For other conditions like constipation and diarrhea, a high fiber diet is actually strongly recommended by doctors.

Low Fiber Foods Diet Doubts

When you are looking to construct a low fiber diet plan, there are some obvious foods to avoid. Anything that looks hard, rough and indigestible should be avoided. This includes whole grain bread, cereals and nuts. Some raw vegetables such as carrots might cause problems. Cooking vegetables will greatly reduce the risk. Popcorn is an obvious no-no. Doctors report many diverticulitis cases caused by the ingestion of popcorn which ruptures the pouches and then later causes infection and great discomfort in the patient.

If you are in doubt concerning what you should eat and what you should not eat, then you have two basic courses of action. If you want to save money you can do your own internet based research and construct a diet according to the information that you source. You should only source information from credible sources though as the internet is a melting pot of ideas and some of them are just not right. If you choose this course of action then you should realize that if you make a mistake you will certainly feel it. It is a far better idea to spend the money to see a dietician and to receive professional counseling
