There is an epidemic in the United States. People are living on take out meals. This has become a way of live. Millions of us have handed over the responsibility of our health to take out joints. The occasional take out is not going to kill anyone but on a regular basis it certainly could. We should not eat any food without knowing what it contains. The vast majority of take out food does not contain enough fiber but it does contain high percentages of fats, sugars and other synthetic ingredients. It is so easy to make a fresh salad or a quick soup at home. Eaten with a slice of delicious whole bread is a quick way to get fresh, natural fiber foods.

Fiber Foods Are Natural

It is recommended that you get at least 25 grams of fiber daily. A high fiber diet has plenty of health benefits associated with it. However, many people still do not include enough fiber foods in their daily diets. This should not be too hard as almost all fresh produce contain a considerable amount of fiber. Eating enough fiber daily will keep your body healthy.

Food that is fiber dense plays an important role in your digestive system. It helps the body in excreting unwanted waste and stops the body from absorbing too much sugar, fat and calories. Fiber keeps the digestive tract, colon and intestines healthy and facilitates the functioning of these organs. It also has preventative proprieties that stop many diseases from manifesting in the first place.

Foods that are rich in fiber include whole grain products, fruits and pulps, stewed and dried fruits such as prunes and raisins, and vegetables and fruits. Nuts are also important sources of protein and fiber and are an excellent meat replacement as it has less fat. High fiber food typically aid in digestion.

How To Add Fiber

It is important to eat a balanced diet. The Daily Recommended Allowances printed on packaging should be taken seriously. If you are eating your daily recommended amount of protein, vitamins and fiber, only then are you eating a balanced diet. If you are not meeting the requirement for any of these, then you should consider taking supplements to boost your intake. The recommendations are based on proven research and backed by various government agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration.

The simplest way to boost your fiber intake is to switch from white bread to whole grain bread. Eating more fresh vegetables and fruits will also dramatically increase your fiber intake in addition to increasing your intake of minerals, irons and vitamins. You can also search the internet for fiber rich recipes. There are also a vast amount of fiber supplements on the market today for those who are on the go and do not have the time to nit-pick their shopping list.

Long term health can be accomplished by making small decisions. Increasing the amount of fiber in your diet is a small decision that can prevent a host of serious diseases that result from neglecting your diet over an extended period of time. Increasing the amount of fiber in your diet will keep you healthier for longer. Exposing your children to a fiber rich diet at a young age will ensure their long term health if they continue to eat a balanced diet throughout their adult lives. With today’s pressures it is becoming increasingly hard to eat a balanced diet but through informing ourselves about the workings of our bodies we can become empowered to make the right decisions.
